The North Bend City Council has fed into rumors that Jeff Bezos is planning to purchase Mount Si. When confronted with the rumor, the City Council simply released a statement, “We cannot comment on any such rumor, but just know as your City Council, we will never stop working to find new and innovative ways to help destroy any remaining views or natural beauty of our city."
Since the statement, rumors have been rampant that Mount Si is indeed on the wish list of Seattle billionaire and Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos. Some have speculated that after purchase, his unconventional plans include hollowing out the mountain to create a secret underground lair. Others have wondered whether Bezos would simply prefer to carve his own likeness on the mountain, or even use the mountain as a launch site for one of his Blue Origin rockets.
The Snoqualmie Valley Chamber of Commerce prefers a combination of all three options. Director Jaydan Miles is hopeful that any physical changes made to Mount Si will draw Puget Sound residents to downtown North Bend. "The whole hiking and outdoor activities thing has been great, but this would bump things up to the next level! We’re really hopeful the rumors are true and are very excited for Mr. Bezos to bring his eccentric vision and indifference to common decency to the Snoqualmie Valley!”
Longtime Forster Woods resident Lottie Goldsmith is skeptical about the rumors, "although he does fit the physical description of an over-the-top James Bond villain, I’m doubtful Mount Si is a good location for any type of evil lair. First off, it would not be very secret! I’m hoping he goes the moon base route, or perhaps chooses an undersea lair instead.”
Jeff Bezos is an American entrepreneur, media proprietor, investor, and computer engineer. He founded Amazon and is the second-wealthiest person in the world. Also, he is an astronaut.
