North Bend Theatre Premieres New Dune Movie -- “Less Weird” Than 1984 Original

Moviegoers waiting in line Thursday night at the North Bend Theatre were in for a treat, as a self-described “Dune fanatic” wowed the line of five moviegoers just prior to the start of the show.
Oscar Sanders described his elaborate costume as Spacing Guild Associate Member Nwi-lin Gar, “My character will likely have no speaking role in the movie, but was mentioned twice in passing in the book.” Oscar spent seven weeks creating his costume, constructed of forty-eight spray-painted yogurt containers, teddy-bear fur, and some duct tape.  “I spent many late nights working on it and eating yogurt over the last few weeks,” said Sanders.

After the movie, we caught up with moviegoers to get their thoughts on the movie.  Snoqualmie resident James Harrich described the movie as “less weird” than the original 1984 version.  Martyna Carroll, a resident of the Tannerwood neighborhood, was unfamiliar with both the book and the original movie, “It really reminded me of a cross between Star Wars and Tremors.  It really took the best parts from both movies.”

Unfortunately, for Oscar Sanders, Spacing Guild Associate Member Nwi-lin Gar did not make an on screen appearance.  “I’m disappointed, but remain hopeful for the extended cut” said Sanders.

The North Bend Theatre opened in 1941 and has continuously operated as an independent movie theatre showing first-run movies, classic movies, and hosting many community events.

Dune runs through October 31st.
